SC6 Blows a Kiss Goodbye to His Friend, Lo-Lo

Loisann Wieber-Gallagher 1969-2010

I almost don't know how to begin this post, except to say that this is one of the sadder days in my life. For those of you who read the blog regularly, I made a vague reference to a sick friend, along with Moye Graham's mom, a few weeks back. My friend was Lois Wieber, or as everyone called her, Lo-Lo. Moye's mom seems to be recovering nicely, but things were much worse for Lois, who passed away this morning from Breast Cancer. She was only 40.

Yes, I've lost loved ones before, and some of them were very young, but most of them were in accidents, doing things they loved, or were sick for so long that death seemed almost welcome. This picture of us was from no more than four months ago. In that short a time, she developed a tumor so aggressive, it was the size of a grapefruit just a couple weeks ago. The idea of someone passing away so fast and so young seems incomprehensible right now. None of us were prepared for this, or believed the diagnosis of her only having weeks left, but they were correct. Right now, I'm waiting for Lo-Lo to call me, tell me this was a big joke, and ask where we're going out this weekend...

Enough about her illness. I'd much rather give you an idea of who Lois was. Lo-Lo was your typical Brentwood, Long Island girl - tough, foul mouthed at times, frisky, funloving, but deep down, she would do anything for you. Lois was one of the biggest fans of my band in the 90's, and I used to dedicate Pearl Jam's 'Black' to her everytime. Most of all, she was a HUGE sports fan. Not just the type that looked good in a jersey - she knew more about the teams and players than you did. Want to start an argument with her? Just say how much the Dolphins , Mets or Rangers sucked.... Here's proof:

This pic may exemplify Lois where words fail....

My neighborhood was very tight-knit..... everyone knew everyone, or at least knew their brother or sister. Lo-Lo was a year younger than me, and she lived about 4-5 blocks away. It was actually after school that we really became friends. When I had a keg party at my house with my beach friends who weren't from in town, she was the only girl from the neighborhood to show up. If she saw there was a party, she was coming - it didn't matter if she knew anyone, she MADE friends. Right before I moved to South Carolina, Lois was one of the best friends I had, and honestly, she was probably the one that got away. The time when we both were single never came around, and she was the lucky one for it! I've thought a lot the past few weeks how hard this must be for her husband, Shawn. I can't imagine it, and all of us are praying for him to be strong...

Lois' loss has made a huge impression in our circle of friends. She was one of the most popular people around - the Alpha Female among a pack of Alpha Females. It's shown all of us that we're getting older, and that we're all human. All the women made appointments with the OB/GYN's, and even the guys are having checkups. Perhaps that is the most important point I can make here today. Women, have your breasts checked, and don't wait if there's a lump. Guys, don't be tough and say you'll 'tough it out' - go see a doctor.

As for me, this experience has made me realize how unimportant politics is, and how much time I've wasted playing the game. I've taken a lot of petty crap from people that I really don't care about. My time of blogging may be nearing it's end, and the time to find happiness and fun in real life may be here again. None of us knows when our time will come, and this year has opened my eyes to it. Smile. Have Fun. Enjoy Life, and tell the people you love that you love them - don't wait.

My girls, Lois and Carol... God Bless you, Lo-Lo. We're going to miss your smile, your ability to make fun anywhere, and most of all, your love. Save a seat for us.....

Today's Quote on Government ...

"If Congress can do whatever in their discretion that can be done with money, and will promote the General Welfare, then the Government is no longer a limited one, possesing enumerated powers, but an indefinite one."

- James Madison.

Thanks to the Patriot Post for the pic and the quote.

We Actually Get to Handicap a Race in the 6th District .....

We Didn't Want to Do a Flying Pig Again, So......

Welcome to the best place in the world for analysis of the upcoming Republican Primary for the 6th Congressional District of South Carolina, also known as the Kingdom of James, aka Whipper Alley. If there is anyone who knows about running in the 6th, and working for the party in the 6th, it's me - not that you care. No, the person who likely will come out of the possible runoff won't have much left to take on Jim Clyburn, but it doesn't really matter anyway. How little chance does the winner have? The SCGOP announced a $365 fundraising drive to take back the seat held by John Spratt, but Clyburn wasn't even mentioned. At least they did put him on the T-shirt.....

I had been dreading and kicking back and forth the possibility of both a Republican challenger, and no challenger at all. We almost got it right. Earlier this week, most of us had been getting a bit squirrely over Nancy Harrelson running again unopposed. If it were me, I mostly likely would have passed if I would be solely blamed (justified of not) for any GOP losses from a Clyburn push in November. With multiple candidates, at least you can split the blame, and it should interesting. God knows me and Gary McLeod sure was... Problem is, we got three, instead of two - but it's better than the nine nutjobs in the 1st who want to run.... With that in mind, we offer our unequalled analysis of the race, which ain't easy, considering none of the three went around the district to build a base.

Nancy Harrelson

By virtue of her candidacy in 2008, Nancy has the most name recognition. That is good, and that is bad - say 'Gary McLeod' at a county GOP meeting in the 6th, and see what happens..... Without a doubt, this is Nancy's last stab at running, lest she ends up with the 'perennial candidate' label. Three races in three years is a lot, and the last one was pretty embarrassing. Anytime you lose after being the only candidate on the ballot, the stigma kinda sticks. As far as November goes, Harrelson says she has a plan: she got 94,000 votes in 2008, but it was still only 33%, which is the same as McLeod got in 2006, 2004, 2002....... No doubt she got a lot of votes for having an 'R' after her name, but some of us felt she was too mechanical and not really supporting ideas that she genuinely believed in, like the Fair Tax.

I've heard whispers about the strategy, but here are the facts: the 6th is 53% black, and they go 95% Democrat, so there is 50% right there. The whites go 2-1 Republican, so there is the 33% you get. Even if the planets realign, the Earth shifts, the sun stops shining, and you get 20% of the black vote, you are only at 43%. It cannot be done.... But, that doesn't apply for the Primary, so Nancy has a chance for the nomination.

Colleen Payne

I don't want to be dismissive of Colleen. After all, she did contact me from Columbia on Facebook about running, which I appreciated. I laid it all out for her, told her what she would have to do and have, and that a part time non-trad college student has no time to run for Congress. I guess she didn't listen, and I hope she doesn't miss the $3500 come tuition time in the Fall. It's not the first time a candidate ignore my good advice - but the smart ones usually do. However, I do understand the need to run just once. I never expected to win, I was hoping to get to 40%, and maybe get the state party to put some kind of effort into the race. The fact is, if a person wants to run, and has the money to get their name on the ballot, they will do it.

Jim Pratt

Pratt is the intriguing one in the race, possibly because I haven't spoken to or met him. From conversations I've had with others, the Orangeburg resident has some advantages over the other candidates. He is centrally located in the 6th, he has money to burn and access to billboards, which makes getting name recognition much easier. Also, he's a man, which is better because we all know men make better candidates. KIDDING !!! I just love to drive the people who think that the GOP doesn't want women in office crazy!

Seriously though, I have heard that Pratt claims he has the Tea Party support. This could be good, and it could be disastrous. If by Tea Party, he means fiscal conservative, great. If by Tea Party, he means the 9-11 conspiracists, Obama Birthers and other fringe kooks that sometimes make it on July 4th and April 15th, then we have a problem. Being the only male, he will need to be prepared to be called a racist, which Payne and Harrelson will not have to worry about. Still, he appears to have the major components that the other two lack. Cash talks where mere words cannot.

As a former 6th District candidate, and current Vice-Chair, my job is to both support any candidate interested, and to advise her/him on what to expect. Harrelson, Payne and Pratt should all be prepared to go down in flames come November - and take a lot of heat if any Republican candidate loses a tight race in the area, like Rose Mary Parham. It comes with the territory. But, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't have a candidate. My hope is that someone will finally get on the same stage as The Whipper, make sense to the voters, and hand him his ass for just one day, like I did in 2005 at Florence-Darlington Tech. I'll be glad to help.... Big Daddy needs a new roof, so just drop me a couple thou, and I'll write all the nice posts you want. Why not? Everyone else does......

Cartoon of the Week....

We're back after a few days in the Palmetto State. There's plenty to talk about, but we figured we'd slowly get back into shape by posting the cartoon of the week - after all, it IS Spring Training...
There's still a bit of a Health Care hangover, so we passed over the actual arguments themselves, and got right to the best part - Joe Biden's on-air F-Bomb. Biden may be the main reason Republicans pray that Barack Obama lives til 2012. Yes, we do love our foul language - it pisses off all the locals who cliam to be Christians, then spend all their free time working to have me kicked out of the party. I don't need your help, folks. I can do it all on my own...

Now That Your Bracket Has Been Wasted ....

Does Northern Iowa Have Some Magic Left? We Think So...

Chances are, after all the upsets this past weekend, the copy of your NCAA Tournament Bracket is a distant memory, crumpled up in a dumpster outside of Greenwood Elementary, or if you're green, in the recyclables box on the curb.... No, we didn't do great either, but 11-5 is better than most from what we've heard. Purdue and St. Mary's are killing us right now...That puts us at a healthy 35-13 overall, but we need some major help to tie last year's 49-14. After ignoring our thinking caps, we made our picks, and here they are.......

Midwest Region

Northern Iowa over Michigan St.

Ohio St. over Tennessee

West Region

Syracuse over Butler

Kansas St over Xavier

East Region

Kentucky over Cornell

Washington over West Virginia

South Region

Duke over Purdue

Baylor over St. Mary's

Yes, Cinderella hits midnight for Cornell, but Northern Iowa and Washington roll on. I picked WV in my Sweet 16 pool, but word is their point guard is out. I'd love to pick against Duke, but not until the Final Four with the clear path they have....

Since We Can't Change Votes Today, We'll Do This For Fun Instead ....

Go Ahead and Play Pin the Tag on the Donkey .....

Now that Jim Clyburn has been able to help people pursue their 'fundamental right' - along with some real nice extras for SC State - we have no other recourse but to fight fire with childish namecalling. No, we don't throw N-bombs around here, but we have no problem with calling people liars and pimps. Since there is little we can do today to change anything (you'll have to wait til November), we invite you to tag the above photo with the wittiest line you can think of. Keep in ind, we DO have comment moderation now. Here is our entry, which P-Luv (who we know is sitting with his feet up on his desk, smoking a stogie and laughing like Tony Montana right now) gave us inspiration for..... It's funniest when you use a burly Russian accent....

'Ha, Constitution.... I crush you like LITTLE GRAPE !!!!! I laugh at you forefathers and urinate on you crinkly document under glass in Capitol. HAHAHAHA !!!!!!'

I would love to have The Whipper in a Civics class one day, where he can explain every American's right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of free Health Care....

Dueling Solicitor Candidates On Monday....

Rose Mary Parham and Ed Clements to Announce On the Same Day ......
Here at SC6, we like things easy... We hate to have to keep our crib notes around while going through all the candidates to see what their differences are, and who we should vote for. So, when things like Monday's double announcement for 12th District Solicitor come up, we have to applaud the candidates for making our lives easier - and isn't that what life's all about?
We do have an interesting race between Republican candidate and former Assistant Deputy US Attorney Rose Mary Parham and Democrat incumbent Ed Clements III. We heard about Parham's candidacy, which has Florence and Marion County Republicans all jazzed up about fielding a candidate in a race that they've let go unchallenged lately. It was a bit hard posting any info for Parham from the little info we could get on her Facebook page, but we did piece together her work with the US Attorney's office and her handling of the recent Timothy Poole conviction from links provided.
Clements has served 2 terms we think in the 12th Solicitors Office, and we found out later that he will be announcing his campaign for re-election Monday as well. P-Luv has a post on Clements at http://www.behindthepine.blogspot.com/, and we're SURE he'll make a pitch for Clements here. Hopefully, we'll have some friends of Parham do the same. As for us, Solicitor campaigns just aren't that sexy to us. We'd like to think that a person charged with prosecuting criminals would do it similarly based on the rule of law, whether he/she has a R or a D hyphenated after their name. Meanwhile, we're glad to see that Parham and Clements are making that decision a bit easier by doing it together. Let's hope the media shows up and reports it, so voters actually CAN decide....

Fuzzy Thoughts - The $5 Car Wash Edition ....

The Avalon Is Stylin' and Ready For the Trip Home .....

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday morning. We're starting our preparation for the trip to South Carolina on Thursday, much like OJ Simpson goes into 'Rush Mode' when he packs for killing his wife..... I mean, taking the Red Eye to Chicago. The best thing this week was the weather. Spring has finally sprung here in Long Island. Sunny and highs in the mid-60's all week. Unfortunately, it's gonna drop a bit tomorrow. So, what do you do when it gets nice out? You wash your car.....

Seriously, the last time I washed my car at home was October. That's why car washes never go out of business here - you can't wash your car for six months out of the year, so you pay $18 to have a Mexican do it for you... Anyway, here are my latest musings: It's not 100% concrete yet, but my intinerary is this.....

Thursday: Drive 4AM- 3PM. Cat nap. 5-6:00PM Florence County GOP Meeting. 6-8:00PM Ken Ard fundraiser. 8:00PM- ???? Creek Ratz.

Friday: Drop car at Toyota, work on yard all day. You name it, I'm doing it. Friday night - no idea, but something will come up.

Saturday: Day two of work, replacing storm door as well. Might go out shortly on Saturday night, but I doubt it....

Elsewhere, after blowing about $500 on new clothes, I finally got to go out last night with a couple friends, where an old lady with a face like a baseball mitt called me gay. Then she drove off in her SmartCar.... However, at Bar No. 2, I did get another girl's phone number without asking for it. She must like gay guys.... At the end, I got hungry and decided to get White Castles. Bad Idea - they don't call them Belly Bombers for nothing.....

Thursday's meeting in Flotown should be interesting for me. I spent all last week ticking people locally off for being right, to the point where even when I gave compliments, people misconstrued them. Such is life..... I see they are going elsewhere to get their news out on other blogs now, which is fine. My advice is don't believe everything you hear, and beware of the hand that feeds you....

So, the House is likely going to pass the Health Care bill today. I watched the coverage on Fox News Today, and it was a nice but cordial battle between two of the sharper young minds in the House: Debbie Wasserman-Schultz(D-FL), and Paul Ryan (R-WI). I feel bad for Wasserman-Schultz sometimes for having to peddle Nancy Pelosi's bullshit, but she did reasonably well, and was honest enough to admit that tax will go up to pay for it. Yeah, her mouth reminds me of a bass I once caught, but she overcame Cancer, so I'll cut her a little slack......

Question: since the House is voting on a Sunday, do we have to pay them double time???? The best line on Fox's panel was by Brit Hume 'The Democrats are obsessing about with Health Care over the Economy much like Captain Ahab.' Moby Dick, people - read sometimes, will ya - and not just blogs and TMZ.....

Lastly, there are a lot of events going on in SC politics soon, and we'll give you a rundown on what we know about soon. BTW, somehow our little blog that no one reads jumped up to Number Six on Blog Net News, when you take out the fact that Sunlit Uplands is on there twice. We're just behind Palmetto Scoop and ahead of Waldo Lydecker's Journal - all heavyweights whether you like them or not. Hey, we did have a good week, and we sure did exert our influence - even if others didn't like it..... See you Thursday!

.

Cartoon of the Week....

Gee, what was the major topic in politics this week? No doubt that health care topped the conversations this week. The only problem was, which cartoon do you pick? Obama putting whipped cream on top of a trash can, Obama sticking his tongue out in an American Eagle pose (the icon, not the clothing store).... There were plenty of ones to choose from, but we picked two: First is the one above, because in our book, you can never go wrong with Butt Humor....

Here is our second.... Ever notice that they always give Nancy Pelosi Crazy Eyes? I wonder why..... Nancy, we deem you to be - as Rahm Emanuel would put it- a F**king Retard.

Onto Round Two ...

Cornell Got Past Me, But Not Many Others Did In Round One..

This is why we need Term Limits. I haven't watched a single basketball game all year, and I went 24-8 in my NCAA Tourney Picks. While I didn't get Cornell, Murray State, St. Mary's or Ohio, I did do a good job with the close picks like Washington, Missouri, Old Dominion and Wake Forest. There was a definite trend region-wise. If it weren't for Cornell and Murray State, I would have been perfect in the East and West. Meanwhile, I only went 5-3 in the South and Midwest. In Round Two, we see one definite Cinderella, and a couple half-Cindy's. Here are our picks......

Midwest Region

Kansas over Northern Iowa

Michigan State over Maryland

Tennessee over Ohio

Ohio State over Georgia Tech

West Region

Syracuse over Gonzaga

Butler over Murray State

Pitt over Xavier

Kansas State over BYU

East Region

Kentucky over Wake Forest

Cornell over Wisconsin

New Mexico over Washington

West Virginia over Missouri

South Region

Duke over Cal

Texas A&M over Purdue

Baylor over Old Dominion

Villanova over St. Mary's

Yes, the Guru is picking Cornell for the Sweet 16 over Wisconsin's slowball.... I also changed two picks at the last second. I always forget that Michigan State just wins - no matter how much I hate them, and Pitt is the same. How will I do? As Gust Avrakatos said, 'We'll See'.........

It's Turning Into 1994 Again .... And We Like It !!

Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots Release New Albums .....

What was old becomes new again, right? Life is not just a box of chocolates, Forrest - it's a cycle. Things come, things go, and then the come back again. Whether it's politics, fashion or music, what was once in will inevitably come back - except for Jamz pants, we hope. For Grunge/Alt Rock fans like us, it couldn't come back fast enough.....

For fans of SC6, you know two of my favorite bands are Alice in Chains and STP. The Snake took away a major chunk of both bands for quite awhile there, but both seem to be back - and totally kicking ass... Alice in Chains has a new album, and after mourning Layne Staley's passing, Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney found William Duvall, and he's a nice fit. The new album is familiar enough to not alienate diehard AIC fans (after all, Cantrell is the main songwriter), but Duvall does sound just slightly different enough from Staley to not make you pin him as a ripoff.

Meanwhile, Stone Temple Pilots were one of the hardest to peg groups of the era. They could do it all, and they did. Unfortunately, vocalist Scott Weiland did a lot of Heroin for a while too, and it sidetracked a great band. During the offtime, Weiland had two kickass CD's with Velvet Revolver (who needs Axl Rose, right Slash?), and the DeLeo brothers started Army of Anyone with Filter singer Richard Patrick, to slightly less raves. What do you do when a broken up band gets it shit straight? You reform. My brother saw them in Charlotte last Summer, and he said it was probably the second best show he had ever been to. Well, they got in the studio, and a new album is due out soon, with the first single being released on Monday.....

On a much lesser note, we hate to see this, but Sublime is doing a shot tour of six shows as well. Singer Brad Nowell died from a Heroin OD (do we see a trend here?), and after 15 years, they hired a new singer, although there is no mentioning of an upcoming CD. To us, it sounds like a mini-tour to rake in a few extra bucks. Sad, but not sad enough to dampen our spirits over AIC and STP back on the road!! Now if only Toadies and Spacehog would get back together, then my mid-90's music habit would be back in full force. Hmmm, Grunge is back - could a Republican takeover of the House be far behind? Here's Alice in Chains first cut, 'Check My Brain'.....

I've Had My Fill Of Cancer This Week ....

A lot of you guys might think that I piss and moan all the time, but generally speaking, i'm a pretty happy guy - at least lately. Like the adage goes, 'If you think you have it bad, there's always someone who has it worse.' Most of the time, I have to look pretty far to find it. Unfortunately this week, it's all too easy to find examples....
For those of you who are tight in the Republican circles, or a fan of SC6, you know Moye. He's probably my tightest ally in the GOP. He worked for my campaign when almost no one would help, and I've always remembered. It also makes it easy when you see eye to eye on just about everything politically.... Moye has had a very tough week as he helps his Mom battle Cervical Cancer. She's 90 I believe, and they ended up performing a hysterectomy to remove the tumor, but she had some serious complications that actually caused her heart to stop. She came back, but she is in Columbia in CCU. Our best wishes for a full recovery.....
The other one is a little closer distancewise, but close in friendship nonetheless. A very tight friend of mine has inoperable breast cancer that was so aggressive, what was unseeable two months ago is now larger than a grapefruit in her chest, lung and spinal column. The first opinion gave her 3 weeks to 3 months, but we're getting a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis. No one knew about this 48 hours ago, so to hear that you friend suddenly may not live thru April makes time and life more important, and more precious. By the way, she's only 40.... Yeah, i'm being very vague, because she wnats to keep everything as private as possible. None of you know her, and no one in NY reads the blog, so it should be okay.......
Like I said, I've had my fill of Cancer for one week. But, I finally found a topic that Democrats and Republicans can agree on - although it would probably segue into an ugly Health Care debate in the end. We'll just avoid that for a day. Everyone join me.... Cancer Sucks. Fuck Cancer.......

Finally, A Movie About Chicks Who Rock ..... Unless You Wait Two Weeks for the Miley Cyrus Movie.

Easy people, we're just kidding. Miley Cyrus DOES NOT Rock..... Jesus! But, before Miley or The Spice Girls or Vixen or The Go-Go's, there were The Runaways. Even before my time, five teenage girls out of L.A. decided to become the first all-girl rock group to be signed by a major label - and then I'm sure things fell apart. Five girls, 3-5 days a cycle during their peak hormonic period - you do the Math. I bet that 10% of 'Happy Time' was Pure Magic, though.......

Tomorrow, or today if you wait til breakfast to read us, The Runaways story hits the big screen, with Kristen (Twilight) Stewart playing Joan Jett, and Dakota (in every movie for the past ten years) Fanning starring as Cherie Currie. Not sure who plays Lita Ford, but she better be hot.... Generally, March isn't the time for Oscar-caliber movies, but we do get some surprises. We'll see on this one. Or, you can go see 'The Bounty Hunter' - or as I call it, 'The Breakup II', with Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler taking Vince Vaughn's place. Hell, they even dressed him like Vince. Ever write a movie specifically for a guy, only to find out he's not available??

Richardson to Announce For J'ville Mayor ....

Brad Says 'Thumbs Up' to Being Mayor of Johnsonville .....

They say all politics are local, which is true for the most part. What is definitely true is that local politics are much more fun and purist than bigger races. Congressional and Senate campaigns suck ...... I should know. But running for mayor of a small town is like it used to be - and still should be.

With that in mind, for those of you in the Lower Florence County area, we encourage you to stop by Brad Richardson's official announcement Friday, March 19th. It will be at the Piggly Wiggly in J'ville from 6-8PM, and there will be food, live music and prizes for the best sign for Brad. Best of all, it isn't Memorial Day yet, so Brad most likely WILL NOT be sporting his Seersucker pants yet! No guarantees on that though....

Seriously, Brad is a good guy who cares about his hometown more than anybody, and he has been a Councilman there for almost eight years, so he has a pretty good idea of what Johnsonville needs. If you would like to help the campaign, go to www.brad4mayor.com or got to Brad's Facebook page - he accepts friend requests, even from people like you.....

Hey, We Don't Know Anything About Politics, But We Comment On That ...

Yes Folks, it's that time of year again.... The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, aka March Madness. Who cares if it ends almost halfway into April now? Last year, I admitted that I knew almost nothing about college hoops, and I promptly went 49-14 overall. The good news is I know EVEN LESS about it.... Of course, the trick is to pick THE RIGHT upsets each year. We have a few, based on no logic whatsoever - call it a hunch, or arthritic pain. Here are our picks for Round One....
Midwest Region
Kansas over Lehigh
Northern Iowa over UNLV
Michigan St over New Mexico St.
Maryland over Houston
San Diego State over Tennessee
G'town over Ohio
Oklahoma St. over Georgia Tech
Ohio State over UC- Santa Barbara
West Region
Syracuse over Vermont
Gonzaga over Florida St.
Butler over UTEP
Vanderbilt over Murray State
Xavier over Minnesota
Pittsburgh over Oakland (Pirates and A's?)
BYU over Florida
Kansas State over North Texas
East Region
Kentucky over East Tennessee St
Wake Forest over Texas
Temple over Cornell
Wisconsin over Wofford
Washington over Marquette
New Mexico over Montana
Missouri over Clemson
West Virginia over Morgan St.
South Region
Duke over Miss Congeniality..
Louisville over Cal
Texas A&M over Utah St.
Siena over Purdue
Old Dominion over Notre Dame
Baylor over Sam Houston State
Richmond over St. Mary's of Our Blessed Sacrament
Villanova over Robert Morris
Yes, I always pick at least 2 Number 9 seeds, because they always have something to prove. Sorry my fellow South Carolinians, but none of the three teams make it into Round 2. I almost picked Clemson, but they have a track record here that leaves something to be desired... the fun starts Thursday, so find that internet TV station, act like you're working, and enjoy !!!!

Correcting Our Alan Gratzer Moment ....

Sometimes, even we here at SC6 screw up. Not about anything political. We're still sharp as a tack in that regard, which we think we solidified this week. So, where did we err? Yesterday, we remembered Corey Haim in our Fuzzy Thoughts post, and we happened to mention Nicole Eggert in passing ...... and somehow, someway, we completely neglected posting a picture of her. P-Luv, we're sorry....
As he put it, 'I don't even know WHO you are, Reino'..... That automatically jogged our memory of the line from 'Employee of the Month' - 'You're like the drummer from REO Speedwagon, no on eeven knows who you are.' Naturally, since I am the King of Useless Knowledge, I already knew the drummer from REO, hence the Alan Gratzer Moment. Thought it might need an explanation.....
Anyway, here's a pic of Nicole Eggert . Not sure if this was pre-boob job/ mid boob-job or post boob-job, but she looks pretty badass here. We liked her best in the Charles in Charge years ..... Still can't believe Scott Baio tapped that....
.

Happy Birthday to My Boss - Or So He Says ....

Happy Birthday to Seabiscuit, On His 11th Birthday ....

No, it ain't the horse's birthday.... SC6 wishes a Happy 48th birthday to our buddy, boss, 6th District Chairman, Four Horsemen member and Official Mike Reino Apologist, Tom Grimes.... If we were in town, we know where we'd be taking him - kicking and screaming against his will, of course! Happy Birthday, Mr. Chairman, and hopefully we'll have more good news from him soon..... No, not my resignation.

Does Obama Have a Girlfriend In Ohio ?

No, we don't examine things the same way as other bloggers do sometimes... Today was a perfect example. While everyone was talking about Barack Obama's road trip to make a final push on Health Care - with Jim Clyburn and John Spratt taking center stage in the push to add another billion dollars to the National Debt, we had another question: what the hell is it with Obama and Ohio?
Seriously, every time the shit hits the fan, Obama hops into Air Force One, and goes to Ohio. Need to talk Health Care? It's off to Ohio. Need to show a Stimulus initiative that produced 35 jobs? There's one in Columbus... Need to catch a game of hoops? Hey, let's rekindle that bromance with LeBron James in Cleveland. Okay, I made the last one up. Obama has an Ohio Jones like Bush 41 had for Kennebunkport, or Bush 43 had for Crawford. If he's looking for a spot to showcase how shitty things are, South Carolina is qualifying pretty well, don't you think? Oh yeah - Red State. Nevermind....
So, what is it about the state that's Hi in the Middle, and Round on both ends? Can only be one of two things: Obama's got a shorty there ............ or it the Buckeye Candy. Either way, he must be trying to get away from the wife for a bit - you can't be downing Chocolate-covered Peanut Butter when the Old Lady's in charge of skinnying America's kids up......

The Reino Curse Claims Yet Another Victim...

Mission Impossible Star Peter Graves Passes Away ...
Yes, it appears as though I did it again. Happens all the time, doesn't it? I blog about someone, or watch their movie or somehow indirectly cross paths with that person, and they die right afterwards. Today, we learned of the passing of Mission Impossible star, and Senior Citizen informercial putchman extraordinaire, Peter Graves. All together now ..... why couldn't it have been Tom Cruise instead? They got the wrong MI star......
In fact, just this weekend, I saw one of his ads, and I thought to myself that it's a wonder he's still kicking. In fact, he was only 83, but when you gray prematurely, you just seem older. I do feel slightly responsible, like it has happened so often before. No, I have more concrete proof than watching a commercial on cable with him: Remember the blog post about the kid's giving takeoff commands to the pilots at JFK? I ended it with Graves in an 'Airplane!!' clip. Eighty-three years, and I get him pegged within a week of his death. What are the odds? No, it still doesn't match Natasha Richardson's accidental death one day after I watched 'The Parent Trap' for the first time, but it's still creepy enough. If I were you, I'd run from me like I was the Grim Reaper come March 25th....
After I added the Airplane clip, I was going to do a post on Johnny , the slightly fruity airline employee in the Tower - he was absolutely the funniest guy in that movie, but I forgot. So instead I'll do it today. Don't worry, it can't do him any harm - he passed away years ago....

Fuzzy Thoughts .....The Happy Birthday Edition.

After 2 Days, The HSM Shit Finally Comes Down....

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. As you guys bask in the beautiful sunny South Carolina weather - and I dream about it for ten more days - the Sarah birthday extravaganza comes to an end. Family day was yesterday, the party for friends at the Gymboree was today. I know, two days to make a 7 year old feel special isn't asking too much, but the truth is, everyday is this kids day. She OWNS the house.. My favorite line? "I don't get anything I want", when she found out some family canceled attending - who she called 'my stupid cousins' two hours earlier...

And about that weather? Today, cloudy, with an occasional drop here and there. Yesterday was hellacious. About 40 for a high temp, 2.5 inches of rain, top recorded wind gust was 67 MPH.... Power lost to about 150,000 people, but not me. It pays to bury those utility wires, folks. Pathetic fact of the day: it's March 14th, and the Christmas Tree STILL hasn't been taken down. We took all the decorations off at least six weeks ago, but taking the top off requires two people, and Joe had been gone for the better part of three weeks.... Maybe today, maybe next week......

Despite the rain, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Bay Shore still went on as planned, though most people stayed in the cars. I was supposed to meet someone this afternoon to celebrate, but my phone didn't ring, so I'm staying home...... Speaking of which, it hasn't stopped raining since I bought new clothes. Nothing like being ready to go out, and not being able to.....

In politics, I saw where everyone was worried that SC was the sleaziest state in the nation in politics. To the people of SC, I have this to say: I've been in SC, and I've been in NY. When it comes to sleaze, SC has a lot to learn still. In short, SC is no NY - feel better? When you dump two governors, a congressman, and have another lose his chairmanship in a year, then call back. For now, please accept Miss Congeniality with pride......

Focus, Daniel-San. Is it just me, or does James Carville need to visit the Democrats and remind them exactly what the main concern of Americans is? Ticklegate. I'm getting copyrights to the term as we speak, along with Tickle-Palooza and Tickle Me Massa..... For those of you who are on Facebook, we suggest that you become friends with Bubba Cromer and Craig V. Adams. Craig has a recurring segment where he asks you to write captions under a photo - and Bubba is just too fucking funny. I can't believe the guy was once a State Rep. He might just be my Role Model.....

Lastly, we pay homage to Corey Haim. For anyone paying attention to his life the past decade, we all kinda had a feeling this was coming. Drugs will always drag you down, and take everything you value in life: money, possessions, your dignity, your freedom, and those who you love. For Haim, I don't think he ever got over breaking up with Nicole Eggert - not that it's her fault. I never saw The Lost Boys, Lucas, License to Drive , or any of the Two Coreys Movies. To me, he was just a kid who got too much too early, and never grew up or embraced reality as the rest of us know it.....

Cartoon of the Week.. Keep This In Mind June 8th.

We're glad to say that the political cartoonists made a nice rebounding from last week's borefest... There were three that migt otherwise make it on a normal week. The first was director Kathryn Bigelow's Oscar win for 'The Hurt Locker' over James Cameron's 'Avatar' - and Thank God for it... An Avatar in would have been the worst choice for Best Picture since 'Shakespeare in Love' beat 'Saving Private Ryan'. There was also a good one about DC's infatuation with Eric Massa's 'Ticklegate' while we still have REAL PROBLEMS.....

But, we decided to pick this one instead. Iraq held elections again - and ONLY a few dozen people died. Meanwhile here in the US, we'll be lucky to have 15% show up for the June 8th Primaries. Are you registered yet???

Stuck In a Position No Single Adult Male Should Be

Well You See, Danielle, That's A ...... Uhhh......CAROL ??!!!!!!
What do you do when you blow out another incendiary, flamethrowing post ? You take a day off, then come back with a funny story that has nothing to do with politics.... Like the Sour Patch Kid of politics that I am, I come through again......
Today, the house is all abuzz.... Yes, the weather absolutely sucks today (it's about 40 degrees with 35MPH steady winds), but the real reason is that it's Sarah's 7th birthday today. Cakes are being baked, parties at the Gymboree are all booked, and High School Musical (EGADS!!)-themed party supplies are everywhere. It should be fun, although we're getting a cancellation or two due to the weather. Yeah, it's THAT bad...
The funny part about being seven is that you don't really know everything, but you start remembering the stuff you don't know about. Case in point: Sarah and her next door neighbor, Danielle, like to sometimes come in while I'm blogging or paying bills. They're usually pretty harmless - Danielle likes to jump on my bed, and they always want horseback rides. This time was a bit different, and I didn't have the room 100% kidproofed. You see, Sarah took notice of my CD collection, and I didn't realize that on top was a copy of Nirvana's Nevermind... You know the album cover....EVERYONE knows the cover. Danielle sees it, picks it up, and goes "WHAT IS THAT ???!!!!", as she points at the kid's penis. I'm 41, I'm a guy, I'm single - I am NOT prepared for this.....
"Well, Danielle...... that's his pee-pee", I said.... She replies, 'His What?" You see, Danielle has two sisters and no brothers. She may not have seen one of these in her life, whereas Sarah sees Steven get changed everyday... I'm completely stuck. So, I do the natural thing..... I panic. I think I said something about that's where boys go wee-wee from, then I hit the Control/Alt/Delete button with kids, and said, "Hey, what happened to you kids not coming in my room?", and they left...... Disaster averted - maybe.
While I feel better about getting them out, it may be too late. I was a pretty inquisitive kid when I was young. When I was six, I used to go in my parents' dresser and make sure my Savings Bonds (remember them?) were still there - and I ended up with my first exposure to a condom. Mom freaked the same way I did. I had no idea what it was then, but I learned eventually. I'm a bit concerned that I just exposed a five year old to things that they don't need to know about at that age, but I can tell you one thing - I sure as hell ain't telling her Dad! Rock N Roll will ruin your life, one way or another... This is the closest thing I can equate it to. Go to about 3:45 into the clip, and give it about two minutes...

The SCGOP's P(ee Dee)R Problem ....

Schedules Conflict, Everyone Asks Me to Resign .....
Some bloggers like to flat out trash people, without any type of positive impact coming from it. They usually have much higher traffic than mine, so even though I may not have learned that yet, SC6 always does have a point to be made at the end. If you're honest enough to keep that in mind, the criticism I give will not be so meanspirited.....
So, what the hell am I talking about? We had a bit of a to-do this week in Florence, and I appeared to be at the center of it, because I stood my ground, and I got ticked off, even if I wasn't 100% right about it.... SCGOP Chair Karen Floyd has been on a tour, making the rounds at the various counties, and the party decided to make Thursday the day to stop in Flotown to round up some 6th District faithful. Why it's always Thursday, I have no idea (it can't be American Idol, could it?), but that's the date they chose. Problem was, there are already several Republican events going on at the same day/time as Floyd's scheduled 5:30 visit at Redbone Alley....
Yep, the Pee Dee Young Republicans are meeting at 6:30 with Lt. Gov. candidate Bill Connor the featured speaker, the Clarendon GOP just down the road meets at 7:00, and there is a fundraiser for State Treasurer Converse Chellis on as well. For the Pee Dee, that is a lot of stuff going on. Here's where it gets a bit fuzzy from my end. If you're looking to get out people n the 6th District, your first thought would be to contact the District Chair and/or Vice Chair, right? Nope. According to who you believe, the SCGOP doesn't have my or the Chair's number. I'd like to believe this, but considering that they gave my phone number to every candidate running for statewide office, along with my e-mail, I have a hard time doing so....
Instead, they contacted the Florence County Chair, who passed it to another person, who released the info to us. So, I end up getting a Facebook message from the party about 6th District Republicans. Yes, I am not in town right now, and yes, the people they gave the job to would get more people out than I would, but when you've waited six years to get the state party involved in ANYTHING in your district, and they bypass you, how pissed off would you be? In my case, plenty, and I think justifiably so. More so for the Chairman, who has been working in the District for 12 years....
From there, it gets even more confusing, almost to the point of unbelieveability. The person who handled it here was considerate enough to give me their side of what happened, which is essentially that the SCGOP was advised of the other events, and they insisted on Thursday at 5:30.... From my end of things, when I'm seeing red, and I have three sets of people telling 2 1/2 different stories, my first inclination is to not believe anyone, then figure out the facts afterwards. It usually works pretty well.....
Given the account I was told, it is a bit arrogant, and honestly, kind of ridiculous for the SCGOP to jump in the middle of a crowded sandbox, and ultimately disrupt three other events. Take into account who now has their plans affected: The District Chair and Vice-Chair, two County Chairs, the Young Republicans, a Lt. Governor candidate and the State Treasurer, not to mention the attendees at each of these events, all of whom were given less than 72 hours notice. Does my complaint seem justified a bit more?
That is the main reason, and the most important for why people in the Pee Dee are a bit peeved - they're just too afraid to say it, although I don't know why.... As for me, the party has officers for just this reason - a chain of command. I'd equate myself as a Lieutenant, and my boss a Major. To equate it in military lingo, the General had her staff contact the wrong division, and skipped giving the orders to the correct officer. In real terms, go ahead and still have who you wanted to do it, do it - but at least notify the right people this is how you'd like to do it.
Yeah, I was pretty pissed... Yeah, I used terms like 'BS Sandwich' and considered much harsher titles for this post - and less consideration. But, like I always do in the end, I tried to be constructive. I'd like to say that I'll keep my fingers off the keyboards so fast next time, but we both know better. Like it or not, you guys need me, but some are already trying to get me to resign the job I got because no one else wanted it. It ain't happening - not quite yet. I hope my points have been made clear to the people in Columbia.... WE drive the bus. You are leaders, but we are the doers, and sometimes you make the better move by not making one, rather than making the wrong move, which is what most people here are thinking today.... As for me, I guess I'll be in Flotown on the 25th instead, and see what the locals want to tell me. Think I'll bring my own food and drinks.....

America's Favorite Train Wreck is BACK !!

Courtney Love and Hole Have a New Album Out .....

It's been a while now, but Courtney Love is back with Hole ...... No, I didn't particularly miss them a ton either, but I thought the last album was pretty decent - but when Billy Corgan helps you out on about eight tracks, it will usually end up pretty well. This time, she got help from the Smashing Pumpkins leader, as well as Superwriter Linda Perry (4 Non-Blondes)...

The CD was recorded during all the problems Love had with some finances related to Kurt Cobain's estate, as well as a custody battle with her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Love says all has been taken care of, and they're ready to rock again. The new album, 'Nobody's Daughter' will be out in late April, so for now, you'll have to settle for the first track, 'Skinny Little Bitch'. We have no idea who it's about, but hell - it could be any one of 100 different women. It sounds a bit L7/ Nirvana-esque to us, but tell us what you think....

Finally, A Toyota That You Don't Have to Worry About the Accelerator Sticking On...

When you customer base is worried about your car inadvertantly going 100 MPH, what do you do? You make a car that goes no more than 4 MPH - pedal to the metal!! Introducing the Toyota Cowrolla ....Delightfully Tacky in a Third World Kind of Way. I'd like to take credit for this, but I got it from my old Boss, and diehard Republican, Charles Saverance. Word is, Saverance Family Auto Center doesn't have one on the lot yet, but we have a feeling you might be able to make one of these yourself, if you REALLY want one.....

Gee, That Didn't Take Long .....

Yes, the ambulance chasers that give attorneys a bad name are already at it. I got this via e-mail today.... Guess they aren't aware of my position on this, but then again, not everyone reads SC6..... I think I'll click that 'to block any e-mails' button. If I want to sue, I'll get a REAL LAWYER......

Chucktown GOP Features 4 Statewide Candidates

The Charleston County GOP will have ther monthly meeting Monday Night, starting at 7PM, at their usual location - The North Chucktown City Complex on LaCross Blvd. It's nice to see that they took my advice, and some attendees will eat at Picadilly's around the corner prior to the meeting. Like I always told them, hungry Republicans are usually VERY CRANKY Republicans....

Lin Bennett and the crew will have four statewide candidates speak to them, with Lt. Governor Andre Bauer as the featured speaker. Also attending will be Superintendent of Education candidates Brent Nelsen and Mick Zais, and Treasurer candidate Curtis Loftis. Charleston meetings are always packed and very lively, so expect a lot to talk about afterwards - anywhere Charm Altman is will always be fun!

Cartoon of the Week ...

I still am not back to 100% after yesterday, so this may be it for today. Not exactly an imaginative week for the cartoonists. The most popular topic was David Paterson, but we already discussed that, so I passed on it.... So instead, we went with reconciliation - or lack thereof - with Health Care. Hopefully, something good will come up this week.......

Fuzzy Thoughts - The Shellfish Allergy Edition

Looks Like I Won't Be Eating This Ever Again .....
It's been an interesting day. Until today, the only things I thought I was allergic to were Fire Ants and Amoxycillin. Looks like I need to add shellfish to it as well... I bought some Glucosamine for my joints, and even though I got kind of congested after eating some seafood on Sunday (I ate the same thing Saturday night and I was fine), I kind of took my chances with ignoring the shellfish allergy warning on the bottle, and I took one. I've spent the past ten hours now popping Benadryl and sleeping it off, because my throat closed up pretty well. It still feels like I swallowed a box of nails, but I'm better. Forgive me for being a bit extra fuzzy from the Benadryl, but hey - it might make me funnier.
First, the weather update: Sunny today, and it cracked 50 for the first time since October I think.... Too bad I couldn't go out, right? I went to get a haircut and buy stuff at the drug store (apparently to try and accidentally kill myself) , but first we got breakfast. After much thought, I had decided that 54 cents is the perfect amount of change to carry when paying cash. So, I got breakfast, and what was the total? $4.55 ..............................
Like mother, like daughter: Carol, Sarah and I took a late-night shopping trip to Kohl's, and the better part of my time was spent putting all the crap the two of them decided they weren't getting back in the proper place. No worries - I will break them of this.......I see the Giants signed Antrel Rolle. Only ten more defensive players to go. Julius Peppers finally got out of Carolina, and Jake Delhomme was cut, eh? Hopefully that post I did on Jake being a waste of $8 million wasn't the reason why, but apparently someone in Charlotte agreed with me. BTW, there's a new job opening at Bojangles........
The latest big fight is the Pee Dee is over .............. a statue? Yes, $100,000 over a piece of marble or concrete is not exactly a wise investment in these tough times, but can we just resolve the issue, and not go to war with each other over it? Another one bites the dust: Dwight Drake gave up his run for Governor. He cited poor fundraising, but I heard he failed the test where a candidate must have an opposable thumb.... I STILL think he looks like Tommy Lee Jones ugly brother, but we'll miss him.
Lastly, it lloks like we have a date cemented for my return to the Pee Dee. Thursday, April 1st looks like the day, so I'll see you guys at Creek Ratz that Friday night for Cheesesteak Wraps and Rolling Rocks !!! P-Luv, call ahead and make sure they sell Abita Purple Haze - I still owe you one.

The Best Thing We've Seen On a Credit Card Bill - Ever.

I'm going to go out on a limb and give politicians and possibly even Democrats a little credit here, although I'm not sure they deserve it. Recently, Congress passed Credit Card reforms, aimed at being more fair with consumers. I will be the first to admit, in some circumstances, Democrats do look out for us better than Republicans. Though they don't seem to know much about the economy, when it comes to personal finance, at least they have our back - I think.
Keeping ahead of- or away from - your credit cards is a key part of financial stability. Becoming dependent on them is like being hooked on Heroin...... eventually, it takes everything away from you. One of the best ways to avoid the trap is to pay off your bakances as fast as possible. When you pay the minimum, you keep yourself in that trap much longer than you need to. So what am I talking about?
This week, I got my credit card bill from Capital One, and for the first time, I got a chart showing just how paying a little more each month will drastically pay it off quicker - almost exponentially faster than paying the minimum. I'll give you some personal info here. I oweabout $1850 to Capital One. If I make the minimum payment of $52 a month, it will take me 16 YEARS to pay off the balance - just in time for retirement.... Not quite. However, if I just increase the payment to a steady $70 a month, I will have it paid off in 3 years - 5 times faster !! It will also save me $2450 in finance charges. Nice, eh?
Did I figure this out with my finance chart and slide rule? Nope. It was right on my statement. Does this have anything to do with the reforms Congress passed? I'm not sure yet, but we'll be waiting for our other credit card bill with anticipation to find out.....
.

Elijah Jones to Announce for County Council ...

We've been a little slack on the local politics lately, but such is the case when you're working and 750 miles away..... Florence County Republicans have some good news this week - we have a candidate running in a previously unchallenged district. Elijah Jones will be officially announcing his candidacy for Seat 6 on County Council on Monday. The seat is currently held by Russell Culberson - another of the alligator-armed Councilmen who basically do Rusty Smith's bidding. Culberson got a free pass in 2006, when the GOP failed to field a challenger, but Jones ends that streak of luck for the incumbent.....
Jones, 26, is the owner od SonShine Real Estate, and he was a former customer of mine and my landlord during the fiasco with trying to take care of my Dad. If he can be patient and was able to deal with my crazy father, then County Council should be a piece of cake..... If you'd like to attend the announcement, and stay for lunch, stop by SonShine at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 12th.

I think I could say that I believe that very such thing. We seem to spend a lot of time fighting about the big stuff, when the real problem with the US Government is the accumulation of all the little stuff. I submit that we could have Health Care, and other programs aimed at helping the neediest, if we only got rid of all the bullshit that we spend our tax dollars on. Don't sweat the small stuff, eh? I think not.......

You're Never Too Young to Be An Air Traffic Controller .... Or Are You ?

JFK Controller Letting His Kids Direct Flights Makes Us Wonder If THIS Is Next ....

Most of us have had an experience with Take Your Son/Daughter to Work Day. My Dad worked at Belmont Park, so I got to see the horses, and once, I got to ride in the saddle - for about 2 minutes.... However, there are some jobs that you're kid just shouldn't get to try out......

Tell that to Glenn Duffy at JFK Airport. Duffy, who is an Air Traffic Controller, decided to bring his two kids to work with him during the President's Day break, and um..... let his kids take a bit more control than they should. The first day, his son gave instruction to JetBlue flight 171, then - since the one kid got to do it - he let his daughter give takeoff instructions to AirMex Flight 403. Even the pilots knew something was up, because one commented, "I wish I could take my kid to work", "Awesome Job", and another said "Adios" twice to the girl's 'Adios Amigos'.... If it weren't for a Boston TV station somehow getting the tape, no one would know...

Needless to say, Dad is on paid leave right now, and the kids are back at class. Our first thought is it's another example of parents not being able to tell their kids 'No' anymore, but at least he did teach them the proper commands, like 'Cleared for Takeoff', and 'Contact Departure'...... Either way, two things are clear now: 1) Air Traffic Controlling IS easy, and 2) Ronald Reagan had the right idea......

SC6 Retro Comedy Clip: Basketball Jones

Don't ask what reminds me of things sometimes, but today, I was thinking of Cheech and Chong's song , 'Basketball Jones'. It's a Jimi Hendrix-type anthem about local superstar, H. Rap Brown High School sensation, Tyrone Shoelaces.... Until today, I didn't know they actually made a cartoon of Basketball Jones. Back in the 70's, we'd listen to Cheech & Chong in the basement. Yeah, I was about six or seven, and I listened to Pot Smoking Comedy 8-tracks. If you want to pinpoint where I went off the path, that might be it.....
They cut out the bets part - the interview with Tyrone and his coach before their game with the East Westchester North Stars, champions of the Southern Conference... It includes perhaps the funniest thing I have ever heard...
REPORTER: So Coach, lets talk about your record....
COACH: What the hell you wanna talk about my record for? Man, I DONE MY TIME..... I PAID MY DEBT TO SOCIETY !!!!! How the hell I know she was 13 - she looked 15 anyway.....
.

Thanks, Dr. Joe ....

Florence County GOP Chairman to the Rescue !!!

Just a quick note to give some props and thanks to Dr. Joe Griffin - Dentist Extraordinaire and Florence County GOP Chairman. My brother Matt called while he was in Flotown, and he had two bad choppers. Dr. Griffin worked him in, got him taken care of, and even cut him a break. Sometimes it does pay to know me, or at least be related to me... Free Plug - if you need any dnetal work , or just your regular exam, Dr. Joe is the man to see at Advanced Dental Center at 2200 West Palmetto Street, right before Florence Toyota. Yes, he even works on Democrats .............I think.

SC6 Gives You Some Great 90's Alt-Rock..

After I write a post where I ruffle some feathers, I often will put up a Music Video - just to get you guys to see I'm not such a bad guy! I came across a clip for Jeff Buckley, and I decided it was time to play 'Last Goodbye'. I may have posted this once before, along time ago, but the quality of this clip on Vevo is awesome. Jeff died too young, but he left a nice little bit of work before he drowned in the Mississippi.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MMXjunSx80

and if you saw Justin Timberlake's performance at the Hope for Haiti benefit, here is where he probably got it from - Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', which he recorded in 1994, and hit Number 1 in 2008 - 11 years after he died.

Buddy, Could You At Least OWN a Toyota Before You Sue Them ?

Now, before I begin this post, I want to let you guys know that we here think that if you have been injured or done wrong by someone else, than you have a right to sue. Most people follow this rule correctly, and don't clog up our courtrooms with bullshit legal claims. Then there are people on Long Island.......

Suing is an art form here.... When you live in an area that is so damn expensive, you need to find a way to get a Big Hit, and thus, Long Islanders find new and exciting ways to sue anyone for anything. Estimates on the lifetime earnings of a six year old? I'm sure it was invented here... My guess is 99% of all Class Action lawsuits are started here. Yes, we are pains in the ass - right down to your pocketbook.

If I still gave out Milton Waddams Awards, it would no doubt go to Steven Boughman of Greenvale, New York. Boughman filed suit in State Superior Court in Mineola against Toyota over the recent accelerator pedal snafu in nearly 8.5 million Toyota vehicles. He'd like to have all New Yorkers who bought a Toyota after 2000 included in a Class Action suit, but Boughman himself doesn't even qualify, technically speaking.... Why? He leased a Lexus LS460. Here's a few of his problems.....

1. It's a Lexus

2. He leased it.

3. The LS460 isn't listed on any recall at all.

4. The LS460 doesn't have the same accelerator pedal that was recalled.

None of this is stopping Boughman. His suit states that 'Drivers and passengers of Toyota vehicles, including Lexus vehicles, have died and suffered serious injuries and property damage. All owners and lessees of Toyota-made vehicles have suffered economic damage to their property.' The economic damage he's trying to scam on is that his leased car has a projected residual value of about $34,000 when his lease ends. Most people turn the car in at lease end, but he thinks that he'll be able to buy it, and make a profit on it. This almost never happens, but the dealer usually pays for the loss. Trying to sue for the value dropping more than expected is like suing your stockbroker for buying stock that doesn't go up as much as he said. So far Lexus vehicles have not depreciated any more than normal wear and tear, while Toyota's dropped 3% almost immediately. Does anyone see a reason for this putz to sue?

It's totally sickening to see assholes like this try to take advantage of something that he's not entitled to. I'd be more jsutified to sue Toyota, but I've had no problems, so why do it? Honestly, this moron might actually be hurting worthy people because if his case gets thrown out - which could be very likely - it could set a precedent for other suits afterwards. P-Luv would know more than me, and I'm sure he'll give an opine... Meanwhile, we wait for the next ridiculous lawsuit to come down the pike - or the Long Island Expressway, as it were.....
